1) Distance
Obviously, the farther the better. This is, after all, a flying contest. Yes, it’s funny when you drop like a stone into the water, and we may laugh and cheer, but the judges won’t even give you half a point for that.
2) Creativity
The art of flying is very important. Specifically the art part. Boeing builds things that fly every day, but frankly they don’t have a hope in hell of winning our competition. We want outrageous flying machines. Ingenious. Crazy.
3) Showmanship
Think Don Cherry’s suits and hockey commentary. Think Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction. Okay, maybe not. But whatever you think of, make sure we can’t forget your launch routine. As a wise man once said, “It’s not whether they love you or hate you, it’s whether they remember your name.”
